UFC 105 Walk out T review: Brandon Vera and Randy Couture

———————————————————-

With another UFC PPV event in the bag it’s time to break down all the new t-shirts that come out as a result. I decided that I would focus on the Randy Couture and Brandon Vera T’s in this blog entry. The t-shirts at first glance look like afflition was going for a red v.s blue sort of theme as the designs are pretty similar. Both t-shirts use the iron eagle as the main focus with a sort of shield crest design in the center with the nicknames of each fighter underneath. On the back it’s pretty straight forward, it’s just the affliction logo with the names of the fighters underneath. Vera had some Asian symbols under his name that I have no clue what they say. So let’s break down what I like and what I don’t like.

WHAT I LIKE

Simplicity – I like how the shirts are taking a page out of RVCA’s book with going more towards a simple image. Obviously these shirts delve into more detail than the RVCA shirts but on the same token it is not nearly as overwhelming as some Affliction shirts can be. In this case I can clearly see the main design character, the iron eagle, on both shirts as well as clearly read the nick names. I also like how they isolate it down to a contrast of colors. For Vera the only other color used is red while for Couture it’s blue.

Public Friendly – Sometimes MMA shirts can be so overdone that you can’t really wear them anywhere outside of a MMA event without screaming out loud “hey look at me I’m an MMA fan”. These shirts however you can get away with wearing it in public to any occasion and it’s not too flashy. Obviously people will still know that you are a fan of MMA when you wear one of these shirts but it’s at least a bit more subtle.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE

Unoriginal – I know I am about to sound contradictory but even though I do commend them for taking a page from RVCA, they may have taken a bit too much. When I see the iron eagle my mind instantly goes to Fedor because really that’s his thing. However we now have not one but two shirts trying to emulate that design. However the only problem is if you took away the names from both of those shirts and I saw them for the first time I would guess they were Fedor shirts. I think it would have been better for Affliction to tailor the shirt design to the fighter wearing it.

Price – They are nice shirts for sure but I do not think they warrant $47.99. If you are a die hard Couture or Vera fan then I could see it being worth the money. However to the casual fan I can’t really see paying more than $30.

WHERE TO GET IT

MMAwarehouse.com has just put out the shirts. I would recommend starting there.
