Crazy week in UFC: Interim belt back in. RVCA and Parisyan out.
Well, this week has been quite interesting for the UFC. On the positive side of things it appears the Brock has been released from the hospital and is recovering well. Sorry haters, your wish for death on the man has failed. While he is recovering, Big Nog’s staph infection has put him out of his match against Cain V. This has brought up discussion of having Shane and Cain (what a great rhyme) fight for a Interim belt. You also have the recent decision by Dana White to ban RVCA and Clinch Gear from sponsoring any UFC fighters. He’s most likely still bitter that Fedor and Hendo have burned bridges. Finally you have Karo Parisyan pulling out for some god known reason that doesn’t even make any sense. So what do I think about all this? Let’s break it down.
First of all, what the hell is wrong with the heavyweight division? Did someone hit the “reset” button or something? Because correct me if I’m wrong but I feel like it’s exactly one year ago when we were in the same freakin situation. We had a heavyweight champion that we were not sure when he was going to be fighting again along with two other heavyweights who were in line for the title and the UFC couldn’t figure out who to give the shot too. No problem just create an interim belt for now and get an undisputed champion later. Well we did all that, and now look at where we are. We have a current champion that we are not sure when he is going to be fighting again along with two other heavyweights who are in line for the title and the UFC can’t figure out who to give the shot to. So they are bringing back the interim belt. Hell why don’t they just make Cain and Shane TUF 11 coaches and make this thing come full circle. Can someone lend me this time travel technology the UFC apparently has? I’d like to go back and change a few things if you know what I mean.
Then there was the decision to ban RVCA and Clinch Gear from sponsoring UFC fighters. Really Dana? You’re stooping to that level? Why? So you can somehow try to screw over Fedor and Hendo because they wouldn’t bow to the value that you didn’t think they were worth? Look, if you didn’t want to give them the deals they wanted that’s fine. It’s businesses. However it’s also legit competition. Strikeforce was able to offer those fighters a better deal. It happens. But banning their lines doesn’t do anything to them. In fact it only hurts the fighters in your organization who are struggling to find sponsors and makes you look like a petty D’Bag in the process. Not only that but you got rid of the only two lines that were showing any real shred of uniqueness in MMA fashion. But hey if you like all the “flaming skull hedgehogs wrapped in a cage link fence from hell with knives sticking everywhere” shirts to be the only ones around in the UFC, that’s all you buddy.
Oh and Karo Parisyan. WTF is with this guy? Pulls out the night before weigh-ins? The only fighter so far this year who has a legit excuse for missing his scheduled match this close to the deadline is Phillipe Nover, and that’s just because the kid had a freakin seizure before his match. What’s your excuse? Couldn’t pay back a $32,000 fine? Over the past 12 months? Seriously dude. Not only that, the athletic commission said that you were cleared to fight they didn’t need the money right away. In fact, they WANTED you to fight if anything because then you would have had earnings to pay back the fine with. Well either way, I hope those excuses are what keep you warm at night because it aint going to be UFC money anymore. You’ve been banned dude just like the shirts except I think people will actually MISS the shirts.
Welp that’s my rant for the week. That felt good. Can’t wait for more UFC drama as it pours in. Have a great weekend and UFC 106 everybody!
