So the latest pop culture news to hit the MMA circuit is that Rampage Jackson has just recently landed a role as B.A Baracus is the upcoming movie rendition of “The A-Team”. In my opinion I think Rampage is a good cast for the role, I mean he’s probably the next closest thing you can get to Mr.T. I also think Rampage’s sense of humor and gruff demeanor will make for a potentially good performance. Now granted i have never seen Rampage act before so this is all theory. The thing though that lurks beneath the surface is what has happened to other MMA stars who have attempted to the brave the silver screen. Since rumors have been spreading about curses in the MMA world I decided to add my own theory of a curse and that is the MMA actor curse.

Randy Couture – Randy made an appearance in the martial arts movie Redbelt which was released in May 2008. It was shot during his 2 year hiatus from the octagon. The movie received mixed reviews with getting a 7.0 rating on IMDB.com. After the movie was released the first match that Randy had to fight was a title defense match against Brock Lesnar in November of 2008. As we all know the match resulted in a loss for Randy and the loss of his heavyweight title.

Stephan Bonnar – First of all I didn’t even know he made a movie. Like seriously it was so under the radar it was insane. It took someone through Twitter to let me know that he was in a film called “Ultimate Champion”. The information on this movie is so little. i searched everywhere and couldn’t even find the release date. All I could see is that it was released sometime in 2009. There isn’t even enough buzz on this movie to have any comments or ratings on IMDB. So since I have no reviews and have not seen the film I am going with what I saw in the preview. If the movie is anything like I think it is it’s HORRIBLE, but enough about that. With the movie being released in 2009 I decided to check that against Bonnar’s performance in 2009 to which he has lost both of his matches. The curse will get a hat trick if he fights and loses once more in late 2009.

Rich Franklin – I love Rich Franklin so it’s hard for me to critique him on when he does something stupid but “Cyborg Soldier” was not exactly a good move. The movie received poor reviews. I have not seen it myself but I think I would like to just out of sheer curiosity. The movie was released in October 2008. Rich’s first fight after the movie’s release was against Dan Henderson in January 2009. Now granted some would argue that a run of the mill loss is no proof of a curse, but I would argue that Rich was robbed of that win from having no point deductions on Hendo for the eye pokes and that it appeared Rich was winning the match in points from the perspective of the viewer.

In the end I think Rampage will do just fine, but I will for sure be watching for what happens in his first fight after the movie gets released. If the trend has any legitimacy then let’s hope the match is not something extremely important like a title match. Until then have fun Rampage, can’t wait to see the movie.
